What Are We Doing Here?
The disciples must have felt left behind. After all, they’d only had 40 days with Jesus since his resurrection and now he was disappearing into the clouds. But Jesus hadn’t left them alone. He had given them a mission, and they would shortly receive a supernatural Helper. Note Jesus’ final words.
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8).
The early disciples couldn’t perceive North and South America—we were the end of the earth to them. But they’d been given the mission and they passed it on. One day the gospel made it to our shores and people believed. The book of Acts teaches us that it’s our time to return the favor. Let’s take the gospel to the ends of the earth.
